Women changing sexuality late in life

According to this story, scientists in America have found that more women are turning to lesbian relationships after the age of thirty and, often, after they have been married and had children. Why do you think this is happening?

[Layla]

Because men suck. Just kidding I think for some women it is probably just the need for an extreme change. Maybe they spent a lot of years devoted to a marriage that never really worked for them or they always felt attracted to women, but thought they had to have a traditional relationship.

[clarissa]

I don't really think that it is so much of a change in sexuality. They may have been curious about a bi-sexual relationship all of their lives and after a marriage ends and their children are born feel more free to experiment with other options.

[Kia]

I wonder if this is just a generational thing. I'm willing to bet that more of today's young adults identify as bisexual than was the case a few decades ago. Like Clarissa mentioned, these women may have always had feelings for both men and women and just didn't realize what it might mean. In any case, I'm happy for the ones who've found true love.

I have to agree Kia. It is fashionable nowadays to be different in so many ways, including sexual proclivity but years ago there was a taboo on so many things and women in particular were expected to conform to society's idea of how they should act and feel.

I think that more women are coming out as lesbians at an older age because the environment seems more "gay-friendly" now than in the past. I think it's a great thing that these women are acting on their true feelings though, and being in the relationships they want to be in.
